802.11 Wi-Fi | 802.11p Automotive

IEEE 802.11p defines wireless access in vehicular environments (or WAVE). 802.11p operates in the 5.85 to 5.925 GHz band and utilizes both full (20 MHz) and half bandwidth (10 MHz) channels for increased range and channelization capability. WAVE networks operate using the higher layer standard, IEEE 1609. Data is exchanged from vehicle-to-vehicle and from vehicle-to-roadside equipment. Applications for this technology include tolling, vehicle safety, commerce, and internet access in vehicles.
